About Me
Music has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember; after falling in love with the piano as a child, it accompanied me through my academic years of studying GCSE and A Level Music right the way up to graduating with a Bachelor of Music degree with honours from university in 2013. I have obtained Grade 8 with the London College of Music and have learnt with Swedish concert pianist Mikael Pettersson who studied with Professor Peter Feuchtwanger. I have performed for the Mayor of Wolverhampton, played at local celebrities dinner parties, and have had the pleasure of playing at weddings. I have composed music not only for the piano but also for the whole orchestra, and have had the magical moment myself of walking down the aisle to a piece I wrote with my guitarist husband!
Whilst studying I was offered a job at a music school, where I realised I had found my calling. I gained experience teaching both group and individual lessons, as well as general music to primary school classes. I have since taught students from the age of 3 to 93! I began teaching privately in September 2011 and I now offer individual lessons in a relaxed environment, on my acoustic Kawai K3 piano.
I enter many of my pupils for exams with the nationally recognized London College of Music and Associated Board of Music, and several of my students have gone on to study higher education music. I teach students from beginner to diploma level (grade 8+), and specialise in teaching music theory from grades 1 to 5, even teaching violinists, guitarists and cellists who need some extra help with passing their theory exams. Equally, I am happy to provide tuition to those who wish to learn purely for their own enjoyment! It is essential to me that pupils take pleasure in their piano lessons and feel motivated to practice; I welcome all musical styles and tastes and love helping people deeply connect with the music that they love. Currently, my pupils are learning such a variety of pieces from Mozart to Coldplay, Debussy to 'The Greatest Showman' musical - lessons are arranged to fit around my pupils wishes.
I strive to make my lessons as engaging and exciting as possible, using a variety of learning techniques and materials that enable reading skills to develop, pianist skills to be mastered and musical sensitivity to be nurtured. These musical concepts are all important in order to become a well-rounded musician. From writing music on the whiteboard, singing and playing games/quizzes, to playing duets, I ensure even my youngest students thoroughly understand and engage with each topic while having a really enjoyable time.
